Dear Delegates, Faculty Advisors, and Friends,

On behalf of our secretariat and staff, I could not be more honored to welcome you to the windy city as the Secretary-General for the Twenty-First Session of ChoMUN, held from Thursday, March 29 through Sunday, April 1, 2018, at the Palmer House Hilton in downtown Chicago.

Since our first conference in 1998, ChoMUN has grown into the largest and most competitive crisis conference in North America. Our eternal focus on the delegate experience and our commitment to innovation continues to drive us forward, and this year we will run twenty-eight dynamic and fast-paced committees—more committees than ever before. This spring, ChoMUN XXI will host over 1,000 delegates and staff and our staff of over 250 students maintains our better than 3:1 delegate-to-staff ratio to ensure our committees offers each delegate a personalized and engaging crisis experience.

This year, our innovative approach remains unchanged, and—while consistently running engaging and challenging committees—we continue to push the envelope and formulate new approaches to Model UN. Building on our unprecedented and successful large double-delegate committee at ChoMUN XX, we will continue to develop a unique style of integrated crisis unique to ChoMUN by renegotiating the EU charter in 2023. Citizens, United responds to the ever-changing climate of modern politics to offers the delegates a chance to navigate the complex relationships between politicians and major donors. Those interested in female-driven history can dive into Eleanor Roosevelt’s East Wing or the ships of Irish Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley, while history buffs can experience the fall of the Knights Templar or the Roman Senate’s response to Caesar crossing the Rubicon. The business-minded have the opportunity to manage the iconic brands of Ferrari and McDonalds, while the creatively minded can take the helm of MGM. In the Court of Emperor Haile Selassie, delegates can explore the dying throes of colonialism from the perspective of one of Africa’s foremost leaders.

This small snapshot of ChoMUN committees only scratches the surface of our offerings, and our dedicated executives and staff will work tirelessly through March 2018 to ensure that the delegate experience, both substantively and socially, is the best yet. Browse through our website to see all of the committees and opportunities offered at ChoMUN XXI, and please reach out if you have any questions.

I look forward to welcoming you in person at the Twenty-First Session of ChoMUN!

Regards,

Jakob Solheim
Secretary-General for ChoMUN XXI
