Topic: Protecting Workers Rights in High Tourism Economies
The United Nations World Tourism Organization was created to maintain sustainable and accessible tourism. This organization does its work by creating policies, tracking research, and providing assistance projects. For this year’s committee, the topic will focus on protecting workers’ rights in high tourism economies. Tourism occurs every day, and in these high tourist areas workers are often the backbone that keep locations operating smoothly. However, they are not treated with respect and in line with equality and fairness. Specifically, many times weather conditions affect their daily lives, they are underpaid, exploited through overtime, and so much more. Additionally, tourism jobs come and go with the seasons, and a lot of hiring happens off the books. This is a huge issue going on today due to lack of international regulations being implemented. The committee will focus on various topics like keeping corporations accountable, protecting migrant workers, and so much more. However, keep in mind economic implications, physical implications, international relationships, and any other aspects that may impact tourism. The dais sees the committee progressing through debate, thoughtful resolutions that can be implemented in different areas, and collaboration. Any resolutions should be actionable and effective, focusing on workers protections in different industries and locations.
This will be a single-delegation committee. Position papers are not required.
