Keeping Up With the Kushites: Advisory Council of Queen Amanirenas, 21 BCE
"Who is ready to build and fortify the Meroitic kingdom?
The year is 21 BCe, and the dust of war has finally settled over the Kingdom of Kush. After five brutal years of conflict, Queen Amanirenas has defeated one of the greatest empires the Mediterranean has ever known. Napta has been sacked, the elephants lost, but the bronze head of Emperor Augustus lies buried beneath the temple of Victory! A peace treaty has been signed with numerous Roman concessions, such as land, trade rights, and the formal recognition of Kushite sovereignty.
But victory is only the beginning. Queen Amanirenas and her advisory council now face the enormous task of securing what they have won. How will the Kushites defend and govern their newly acquired territories? How will Napta, the heart of the kingdom and home of the royal residence, be rebuilt from the ruins of war? And how will the kingdom revitalize its economy, establishing trade routes that Emperor Augustus has granted them to ensure long-term prosperity?
The decisions made in this room will have a great impact on future generations. Will Kush consolidate its power and become a dominant force in the ancient world? Or will the impact left by war make holding this kingdom together doomed?
The future of Kush is in your hands.
Frankie Barrera
chair
Frankie is a second year in the college, majoring in Art History and Global Studies, minoring in Gender and Sexuality Studies, with aspirations for working in a museum. Frankie had zero experience going into Model UN, but it was love at first sight, and he has been active in both MUNUC and ChoMUN. He has been an AC for UNICEF and CSW for MUNUC 38 and an AC for GADHOC and A Pirates Life for Me!: Republic of Pirates, 1716 for ChoMUN XXIX. Frankie has been a victim of switching committees due to an AC shortage. He got so tired of switching that he decided to avoid it by running a committee.
When not doing anything Model UN-related, he enjoys spending time watching trashy Tubi movies with his friends, finding new restaurants to eat at, and going to events where obscure music is playing in some guy's basement. He is also an avid tennis player, so if you have any controversial opinions on players, please let him tell you why you’re wrong. Frankie is beyond excited for ChoMUN XXX and cannot wait to hear all your ideas and how you deal with crises!
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to him at fbarrera@uchicago.edu.
Elizabeth Goldthorpe

She is also a costume designer for some of the theater performances at UChicago.

Adriana is a second year in the college and is currently planning on studying Psychology and Environment, Geography, and Urbanization with an aspiration to go into consulting. Her first experience with anything Model UN-related was MUNUC 38 and she loved it! She served as an AC for the SPECPOL committee, then in ChoMUN XXIX she was a backroom AC for JCC Ad Astra Per Aspera: Dominion of Solace. Outside of Model UN, she is also involved in career and culture related clubs on campus. Her other interests include golf, travel, and all kinds of music!

Shayaan Gandhi
crisis director
Shayaan is a second-year student planning to major in Quantum Molecular Engineering. She is from the big city of Los Angeles, and is still marveling at the public transportation in Chicago. In addition to her coursework, Shayaan is also an active member of the Ceramics club, writes for the Shady Dealer (UChicago’s only intentional humor publication!) and is the House President for Rickert House.
Shayaan is very excited to be one of your crisis directors for this committee!
