Lima Me Alone: The Congress of the Republic of Peru, 1990

Welcome to Lima, 1990! The economy is in freefall, and the new president seems... suspiciously quiet about his plans. Agronomist and political newcomer Alberto Fujimori has just pulled off one of the most unexpected political upsets in Latin America, defeating neoliberal icon Mario Vargas Llosa with the support of rural voters and promises of populist reform. Congress, still stacked with liberals, assumes it can keep him in check. But behind the scenes, whispers of authoritarian ambition and backroom deals with shadowy military figures are growing louder. Inflation is at 7,500%, and the IMF is sending politely worded threats…oh, and did we mention there’s a Maoist insurgency in the highlands?

This committee drops you into Peru’s last democratic gasp before Fujimori’s infamous 1992 self-coup. Delegates will serve as ministers, advisors, and congresspeople, trying to keep the President in check and stabilize the country through democratic means. The decisions you make could tip the balance between democracy and dictatorship—or plunge the nation into chaos. Will you save Peru’s fragile institutions? Or is reform needed to ward off authoritarianism and instability? Economic collapse, secret intelligence files, IMF meddling, rebel broadcasts, and surprise cabinet firings await.
