Ad-Hoc Committee of the Secretary-General
The Ad Hoc Committee of the Secretary General is designed to give experienced delegates a unique and exciting experience. The committee itself will remain secret until shortly before conference when the background guide is released. Delegates will be forced to think creatively and quickly, and crisis skills will be continuously tested. As the flagship committee of ChoMUN XXI, the Ad Hoc will be home to high caliber debate and strive to create the most innovative crisis experience on the circuit.
Zach is fourth year Political Science major originally from Cleveland, Ohio. On campus, Zach is the Events Chair of the UChicago Institute of Politics, on the Leadership Corps of the Neighborhood Schools Program, a Brother of Sigma Chi, and serves in a variety of leadership roles in the College Admissions Office. Zach has competed on the UChicago Model UN Team, has thrice been a moderator for MUNUC, our high school conference, and has chaired both Dawn of the Vikings at ChoMUN XIX and The Culper Ring at ChoMUN XX. Zach is ecstatic to be chairing the Ad Hoc and is looking forward to planning and executing the most thrilling Ad Hoc the circuit has ever seen.

Adam is a 4th year student at the University of Chicago completing a dual BA/MA degree in Economics and International Relations. Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, he is a huge fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics and is looking forward to Tom Brady’s 6th super bowl ring. In addition to crisis directing at his third ChoMUN Adam is involved with MUNUC (UChicago’s high school MUN conference) and as a part of UChicago’s competitive team.
In previous years he has been a part of the Dawn of the Vikings (ChoMUN XIX) and Ad Hoc (ChoMUN XX) committees, and is very much looking forward to bringing delegates an exciting Ad Hoc in 2018. Outside of the MUN world, Adam is involved with UChicago’s Institute of Politics and helped found a non-partisan civic engagement club on campus called the UChicago Democracy Initiative (UCDI). The UCDI works to increase voter turnout and educate potential voters in Hyde Park and on UChicago’s campus about issues facing democracy, and works towards increasing access to information about the actions of Hyde Park representatives. When not doing any of these things, you can find Adam as an RA in Halperin House just south of UChicago’s Midway park, or getting on the “L" to explore the rest of the city. This will be his final ChoMUN, and he couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to co-CD one of the circuits most fast paced and creative committees.
Richard Ruano (or RJ, as he goes by) is a third year studying Political Science and Spanish. He’s actually from a small town in northern Illinois but, if you ask him, he’ll just say Chicago. RJ is excited to continue his MUN career by serving as the Crisis Director for ChoMUN’s Ad Hoc—mostly because he enjoys the power trip of knowing the topic before everyone else. RJ lives and breathes MUN: he is the Vice President of UChicago’s travelling team and serves as a Crisis Chair for the university’s high school conference. He also enjoys spending a fair amount of time with his fraternity, Delta Kappa Epsilon. Aside from all of those, RJ is a die-hard Chicago sports fan and a politics junkie. He looks forward to welcoming all of you to Chicago and hopes to make this year’s Ad Hoc the best that ChoMUN has run.
